Hi, I’m Maggie!
At any given time, I’m likely to have at least 78 tabs open in my browser. The majority of these tabs serve to remind me that there are a lot of online articles I’ve stumbled upon but still haven’t read. (Much like my bookshelves, my poor computer falters under the weight of my overzealous reading aspirations.)
Why can’t I read an article the moment I find it, close the tab, and be done with it? Because I never actively search for all these articles I need to some day read—they find me. They find me as I’m scrolling through Facebook. They find me in my inbox, as I’m subscribed to every newsletter there is. They find me on Digg, on Reddit, by way of a friend’s recommendation. It’s like all these publications know that I have a weakness for the strange and unusual.
That’s why I’ve started an Online Article “Book” Club. I wanted a way to hold myself accountable for reading everything I find across the internet. (Of course this club has generated more article recommendations as opposed to helping me close browser tabs, but that’s beside the point.) I also wanted to connect with cool people who like online articles and book clubs, and would be willing to meet once a month.
Thanks for stopping by!
What is the “book” club?
It’s a monthly discussion of words that can be found on the internet. We’re a community of like-minded online article enthusiasts who have more articles to read than time to read them. Like a traditional book club, we’ll talk about an article we’ve read, dissecting what works and what doesn’t, what we’ve learned, and what we feel.
How often do you meet?
We typically meet on the last Thursday of every month. You can follow our Facebook page for more event information.
How do you meet?
In the before times, we gathered in my tiny Brooklyn apartment (it was great—I made dinner, we drank a lot). But now we connect via a Zoom link I add to every meeting invite.
What types of articles do you read?
That’s up to the club! This is a very general discussion group. You can check out past articles we’ve discussed to get a better idea of what we like to read.
